Ladies and Gentlemen:

Happy Thanksgiving.  This is a reminder for two fun filled events in December on top of your Christmas celebrations.

1. The West Point Society invited us to the Army vs Navy football social at DJ’s Dugout in Bellevue on 10 Dec, starting at 1300.  The march on happens at 1300.  The game starts at 1400.  See the attached flyer.  Anybody have a replica of the CIC’s Trophy to show who possesses it?...;-)

2. The Academies parents club invited us to the All Academies Ball on 30 Dec, starting at 1800, held at the Beardmore Center (the new hotel by the Culver’s and Twin Creek Theaters) just north of Hwy 370 and 36th Street.  See the attached invitation.

You have until 10 December.  The cost is $45 per person.

3. Please pass the message to any grads I may miss.  Have them send me a message on what email address they would like to get these announcements to stay in touch with the USAFA alumni body.  If you know of grads here on TDY or just visiting during one of our socials, feel free to invite them to join us.

4.  Safety: As the weather gets colder, dress appropriately.  When the roads get slick, drive carefully.

5.  I have my movement back in my arms.  I was able to do pushups prior to my accident.  Now, I struggle with one pushup.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Good evening.  This is a reminder for Saturday, 5 November, when Air Force beats Army.

USAFA vs USMA football social: 5 November 2016, 1100, at Nebraska Brewing Company in Shadow Lake Mall (72nd and Hwy 370).  David Webster, our treasure, can collect dues in person.  For $20 each, it enables us to fund school awards to bring awareness to USAFA and to host visiting cadets.

We invited the USMA grads.  Friends and family are welcome.  Please invite any other grads that I missed.

Outstanding people have one thing in common: An absolute sense of mission. – Zig Ziglar

PS: The splint is off my left arm.  Two screws hold the bone in place.  The doc said I can do self therapy to get my movement.  The right arm was left “as is” to heal.  Both radial heads were fractured.  They were not compound fractures.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Good evening.  We have good news to share and a reminder.  Please read through.

1. Congratulations are in order.  Ms. Elizabeth Durham-Ruiz is not just PCSing to Scott AFB, she has a big promotion to the SES level.  She is one of the best people I know who just fits into these roles.  If you are able to get into the USSTRATCOM building next Monday, her ceremony is in the afternoon.  See below for details.

The Commander United States Strategic Command, Admiral Cecil D. Haney, requests the pleasure of your company at a Senior Executive Service Induction Ceremony honoring Ms. Elizabeth Durham-Ruiz, J6 Senior Technical Advisor.

When: Monday, 31 October 2016
Time: 1400
Location: Commander's Conference Center (CCC) in the USSTRATCOM building

Note: No cameras or cell phones allowed in the USSTRATCOM building.  Leave them in your car if you are coming to the ceremony.  I will be “lost” without being able to take pictures…;-)

2. We have a job announcement.  Please pass on to any NH-IIIs or GS-12/GS-13s or veterans that you know that might be interested.  This is an 0801 position (not 2210) so an engineering/science degree or equivalent coursework is required.  The announcement for subject RPA will open 24 Oct 16 and close 28 Oct 16. It will be located on USAJOBS website at http://www.usajobs.gov/, the announcement number is 7W-AFPC-1831402-787535-ASC; USAJOBS Control Number is 454117000.  I want to see more of us in these slots if you are not active duty.

4. The All Academies Ball is 30 December 2016, Beardmore Center (by the Culvers and Twin Creeks Theater), starting at 1800 (6:00 PM).  This is a really nice event the parents club puts on for the cadets and candidates.  I went to the last one and thought I missed out on the other the previous years I didn’t go.

Call the All Academies Ball committee if you have further questions.

5. Please pass the message to any grads I may miss.  Have them send me a message on what email address they would like to get these announcements to stay in touch with the USAFA alumni body.  If you know of grads here on TDY or just visiting during one of our socials, feel free to invite them to join us.

6.  Safety: Be careful riding your bikes.  Wear a helmet.  Two weeks ago I broke both of my arms in a bike accident.  I did not hit my head.  I did not get any scrapes.  My arms broke the fall else I would have broken my neck.  Anyway, the radial heads by my elbows fractured.  The left one had a 2.5mm shift (step) that needed surgical correction last week.  It was said that I asked for my classmates in recovery.  I must have had my 30th reunion in my subconscious as that also happened last week.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Good evening.  It was a good gathering for the USAFA vs USNA football social.  It was even better with the USAFA win (28 – 14).  Roy Kessell displayed our distinguished chapter award from the main AOG.  It is a big flag.  There are 80 plus chapters, 25 of them were distinguished, and we are one of them.

Remember this Friday.  There will be a group of 27 – 30 cadets coming to Offutt for their squadron sponsor visit.  We have a cadet social at Ed Bishop’s place on 7 October 2016 at 1800.

It would be great if you can join us for the social.  Ed Bishop’s place is really nice and he grills mean burgers and brats.  Please bring a side dish to share.  Chips, dips, and drinks are good, too.  Friends and family are welcome.

1. Also with the visiting cadets, there is another cadet social at the SAC Museum the next day on 8 October 2016 at 1300.  Friends and family are welcome.  With a big group, the SAC Museum might give a group discount.  Roy Kessell leads a good tour.

2. The All Academies Ball is 30 December 2016, Beardmore Center (by the Culvers and Twin Creeks Theater), starting at 1800 (6:00 PM).  This is a really nice event the parents club puts on for the cadets and candidates.  See the attachment for more information.

Call the All Academies Ball committee if you have further questions.

3. On the horizon is USAFA vs USMA football in November.  David Webster, our treasure, can collect dues in person.  For $20 each, it enables us to fund school awards to bring awareness to USAFA and to host visiting cadets.

4. Please pass the message to any grads I may miss.  Have them send me a message on what email address they would like to get these announcements to stay in touch with the USAFA alumni body.  If you know of grads here on TDY or just visiting during one of our socials, feel free to invite them to join us.

1. USAFA vs USNA football social: 1 October 2016, 1400, at Nebraska Brewing Company in Shadow Lake Mall (72nd and Hwy 370).

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Good evening.  Summer is half over.  School starts in a few weeks.  I’m watching Sharknado the 4th Awakens.

If you were in Chorale or just like to sing, our own Jeff Blank is a songbird.  He sings on both the Pathfinder Chorus and the Sarpy Serenaders.

You can get Jeff’s autograph on 21 August 2016 at the Rose Theater (20th and Farnum) at 1500.  This is a Pathfinder Chorus concert at $15 a ticket.  But wait, I’m not through yet.  If you go to the Rose Theater, I’ll double the offer.

You can also get Jeff’s autograph on 21 August 2016 at the Sumter Amphitheater (11691 S 108th St, Papillion) just south of Papillion South High School at 1930.  This is a Sarpy Serenaders concert and it is a free concert.

Stay tuned.  I may have some more information on jobs for our job networking.  There are no postings yet.  There should be some engineering slots coming soon.

Please pass the message to any grads I may miss.  Have them send me a message on what email address they would like to get these announcements to stay in touch with the USAFA alumni body.  If you know of grads here on TDY or just visiting during one of our socials, feel free to invite them to join us.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Happy 4th of July.  Stay safe and enjoy your holiday time.  There are lots of fireworks all over the place.  I’m still amazed as where I grew up, they were not allowed.

We only had one Ops AF group.  They are a fine bunch of “kids.”  Perhaps a future CSAF was in that group we had.

Our counterparts in the West Point Society had their annual baseball game.  I relayed their pictures to our Facebook page.

Time really goes by fast.  We are half way through 2016.  School starts up again in another 1.5 months.

Get ready for another school year.  Our activities seem to center on the school year.  It makes sense with our kids, USAFA, vacations, etc.  We will have our usual football socials, parents club Christmas ball, high school awards, Ops AF, lunch socials, Roy’s updates from the main AOG, etc.

Good evening.  The Ops AF cadets are here.  They enjoyed the SAC Museum tour with Roy Kessell and John Rued.

Ed Bishop put on a great picnic where the mature and fledglings gathered to learn from each other.  The mature provided experience on what to expect and the fledglings provided what they are doing at the Academy.  The conversation centered on school work as in what they are majoring.

The parents’ club activity may be tough.  It happens on Fathers’ Day and I know many may already have plans.

a. The parents’ club arranged an Appointee late lunch or early dinner at Swanson Park, Sunday, 19 June 2016 (Fathers’ Day).   It is located at 3102 Cornhusker Road in Bellevue NE (between 25th and 36th).  Turn north on SP Benson Drive and Swanson Park is on your left (west).  There will be a Parents Meeting at 2pm (1400) for members and follow with the meal at 3pm (1500) for the new appointees, families, AOG and the Cadets visiting Offutt for Summer Session.

b. See the attached flyer for our invitation to join the West Point Society for an evening of baseball.  This is their annual host a veteran night.  It is Saturday, 2 July 2016, at Werner Park.  Please send RSVP w/payment  to Lee Kolbo NLT 20 June.  Lee’s address is 1013 Hogan Drive, Papillion, NE  68046.  Tickets will be available at the “Will Call” window (hut) on the day of the event (2 July).

c. Also attached are notes Roy Kessell had from the AOG Presidents conference.  Please review those notes.  There is a lot of interesting information from the conference.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Good evening.  There are lots of memories this time of year with our anniversaries of graduation.  My graduation was 28 May 1986.  It’s hard to believe 30 years went by already.  I still have those dreams of being late for class.  I wake up in a panic and then remember it was a long time ago.

Some changes happened in the cadet Ops AF schedule and we now only have one group of six cadets.  They shall be here 7 – 22 June 2016.

a. Roy Kessell arranged a tour of the SAC Museum with the cadets on Friday, 10 June 2016, at 1430.  It would be similar to last year.  If you are able to join with the cadets, you would have to pay the admission.

b. Ed Bishop graciously set up a picnic at his home following the SAC Museum tour.  The picnic at Ed Bishop’s home is Friday, 10 June 2016, at 1730.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Good evening.  Congrats to one of our past Chapter presidents, Jacque Torson.  She just pinned on major.  The ceremony also had a surprise.  Her husband, Bill Torson, also pinned on major.  Both are from USAFA 2006.

b. Bellevue East High School: Katherine Knights

2. Be prepared and put down 30 December 2016 on your calendar.  It’s the date for the All Academies Ball hosted by the Service Academies Parents’ Club.  This year led by the USAFA parents.  Our very own Roy Kessell will be the guest speaker.  It will be at the new Bellevue Convention Center.  When the time gets closer, I will send the parents’ club invitation that will have more details.  We went to last year’s ball and it is a fun event to attend.

3. We expect our summer activities to ramp up with Ops AF groups.  Usually with the first Ops AF group the parents’ club has an appointee send-off.  We will send more information when we get it.

4. I’m not sure why I received the following notice for test pilot school.  Perhaps, they are teasing me.  However, I can pass the information to those who are eligible.

The next annual United States Air Force Test Pilot School Selection Board will convene 25-29 July 2016 at the Air Force Personnel Center.  The USAF Test Pilot School (TPS) is the world's preeminent fixed-wing test pilot school.  USAF TPS graduates are future senior leaders who will be in high demand in an era of increasing combat technological advancements.  USAF TPS trains pilots, combat systems officers, and engineers to develop, test and evaluate the newest aircraft and weapons systems.  USAF TPS graduates will be awarded a Master of Science degree in Flight Test Engineering by Air University, which is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.  In addition, USAF TPS conducts exchange programs with the U.S. Navy, United Kingdom, and French Test Pilot Schools to train fixed and rotary wing pilots and flight test engineers.  Rotary wing pilots and engineers will be assigned to conduct testing on the latest rotary wing systems and special operations assets.  Applicants from all aircraft types and backgrounds must have strong academic and technical experience and a desire to help develop the next generation of Air Force weapons and weapons systems.  For more information, visit the TPS website: www.edwards.af.mil/units/usaftps.

Reference PSDM 16-34 on the MyPERS website https://mypers.af.mil/ and AFI-99-107 on the e-Publishing website at www.e-Publishing.af.mil for eligibility and application information.

Good evening.  The Founders Day dinner social was a really good get together.  We included appointees where they got to meet with us old people to talk about USAFA.  We had cake and door prizes.  Col “Moose” Reynolds gave us his perspective about the future of the USAF in the next 10 years.  There was interesting bit of trivia where if the B-17 were used in the first Gulf War, it would be younger in age than some of the aircraft that we continue to use today.  A question to ponder – Do cyber warfare people need to pass a PFT?  They will not be in a physical combat.  They will use their cyber skills.

Anyway, here is a very short summary – We have to do more with less, and we have an excellent new generation of smart kids who will fill in the gaps.  We need to reach out to the smart kids and encourage them to a career in the USAF.

Here are some dates this week to keep in mind:

a. 26 April 2016: USAFA vs UNO in baseball at Werner Park.  It is listed for a 1300 start time.

b. 27 April 2016: USAFA vs Creighton in baseball at TD Ameritrade Park.  It is listed for an 1800 start time.

c. 26 April 2016: This is also the date for our award presentation at Bellevue West High School.  We do not have a time yet.  We received an 1830 time.

d. 27 April 2016: This is also the date for our award presentation at Bellevue East High School.  We do not have a time yet.  However, 1830 would be a good time to ensure you don’t miss anything.

c. The National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) has provided the following website for veterans to gain access to their DD-214s online:

www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records

This may be particularly helpful when a veteran needs a copy of his DD-214 for employment purposes. NPRC is working to make it easier for veterans with computers and Internet access to obtain copies of documents from their military files.

Military veterans and the next of kin of deceased former military members may now use a new online military personnel records system to request documents.

Other individuals with a need for documents must still complete the Standard

Form 180, which can be downloaded from the online web site.

Because the requester will be asked to supply all information essential for

NPRC to process the request, delays that normally occur when NPRC has to ask veterans for additional information will be minimized. The new web-based application was designed to provide better service on these requests by eliminating the records centers mailroom and processing time. Please pass this information on to former military personnel you may know and their dependents.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Good evening.  Happy Founders Day (1 April).  The year seems to be going by fast.  In the March announcements, I mentioned that we had a good lunch social and discussions.  The discussions and suggestions were about inviting our local candidates and appointees to our functions.

Speaking of functions:

1. Keep three dates open on our calendars.

a. 21 April 2016: Founders Day dinner social at Lo Sole Mio (3001 S 32nd Ave, Omaha, NE 68105) 1830 start.  Spouses and friends are welcome.  Please see the attachment from Roy Kessell for more information.

b. 26 April 2016: USAFA vs UNO in baseball at Werner Park.  It is listed for a 1300 start time.

c. 27 April 2016: USAFA vs Creighton in baseball at TD Ameritrade Park.  It is listed for an 1800 start time.

2. We have a double up on a couple of dates.  The Bellevue high schools have their awards the same days as the baseball games.

a. 26 April 2016: This is also the date for our award presentation at Bellevue West High School.  We do not have a time yet.  We estimate it would be the usual time of 1900.

b. 27 April 2016: This is also the date for our award presentation at Bellevue East High School.  We do not have a time yet.  We estimate it would be the usual time of 1900.

3. I cleaned up the mailing list.  I also imported some lists I had.  If I inadvertently placed you on our mailing list and you moved (PCS’d), let me know.

4. Thanks for the dues and donations.  For $20 each, you help keep our chapter active with the community and visiting USAFA guests.

5. Please pass the message to any grads I may miss.  Have them send me a message on what email address they would like to get these announcements to stay in touch with the USAFA alumni body.  If you know of grads here on TDY or just visiting during one of our socials, feel free to invite them to join us.

"The discipline which makes the soldiers of a free country reliable in battle is not to be gained by harsh or tyrannical treatment. On the contrary, such treatment is far more likely to destroy than to make an army. It is possible to impart instruction and give commands in such a manner and such a tone of voice as to inspire in the soldier no feeling but an intense desire to obey, while the opposite manner and tone of voice cannot fail to excite strong resentment and a desire to disobey. The one mode or other of dealing with subordinates springs from a corresponding spirit in the breast of the commander. He who feels the respect which is due to others, cannot fail to inspire in them respect for himself, while he who feels, and hence manifests disrespect towards others, especially his subordinates, cannot fail to inspire hatred against himself. "  - MG John M. Schofields’s graduation address to the graduating class of 1879 at West Point.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Good evening.  Beware the ides of March.  We’re not Julius Caesar, so we don’t have to worry…;-)  We had a good lunch social in February.  Roy Kessell gave a synopsis of our activities.  Pat McVay made good suggestions and ideas.

Roy Kessell presented a 2016 TAD Draper Leader of Character Award to Clay Madson of Papillion La Vista High School on 22 February 2016. It was at 0900 in the morning.  I do not have pictures of the event.  I was caught up with work at the office.  If you know Clay Madson, congratulate him.

Last year's 2015 TAD Draper Leader of Character Award winner, Jacqueline Sweet, received her appointment to the US Air Force Academy.  She enters June 2016 and will be in the Class of 2020.  The Class of 2020 is 50 years after Roy Kessell graduated.  If you know Jacqueline Sweet, congratulate her.

1. We’ll keep you posted on our other schools.  Roy Kessell contacted Bellevue East High School and Bellevue West High School for their award nights for our presentation.  We don’t have the information back yet.  Millard South High School is a potential for next year.

2. Keep three dates open on your calendar for next month.

a. 21 April 2016: Founders Day dinner social at Lo Sole Mio.  1830 start.

b. 26 April 2016: USAFA vs UNO in baseball at Werner Park.  It is listed for a 1300 start time.

c. 27 April 2016: USAFA vs Creighton in baseball at TD Ameritrade Park.  It is listed for an 1800 start time.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Good day.  This is a reminder message for our February lunch social: 25 February 2016 at China Road (4006 Twin Creek Dr, Bellevue, NE 68123) starting at 1130.

On a different note, this morning Roy Kessell presented a 2016 TAD Draper Leader of Character Award to Clay Madson of Papillion La Vista High School. It was at 0900 in the morning.  I do not have pictures of the event.  I was caught up with work at the office.  If you know Clay Madson, congratulate him.

And the best news, last year's 2015 TAD Draper Leader of Character Award winner, Jacqueline Sweet, received her appointment to the US Air Force Academy.  She enters June 2016 and will be in the Class of 2020.  The Class of 2020 is 50 years after Roy Kessell graduated.  If you know Jacqueline Sweet, congratulate her.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Good evening.  Here is an update of information.  Please note that the February lunch social moved to 25 February.

1. The Papillion La Vista High School TAD Draper Leader of Character Award is on Monday, 22 February 2016 at 0900 in the auditorium.  Roy Kessell will present the award.

2. February lunch social moved to Thursday, 25 February 2016 to avoid a conflict with the Daedalians.  25 February 2016 at China Road (4006 Twin Creek Dr, Bellevue, NE 68123) starting at 1130.

3. It’s a couple months away, and may still be cold.  Air Force is in town for two baseball games.  On Tuesday, April 26, Air Force plays UNO at Werner park.  The next night, Wednesday, April 27, Air Force plays Creighton at TD Ameritade park.  Both are evening games.

Roy Kessell has fun with commercial drone flying.  If you ask me, someone is getting paid to play with toys…;-)

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Good day.  I hope you are all well with our ominous weather.  Be prepared.  If you use the shovel, stay in shape.  That is some heavy snow.  If you are looking for an excuse to celebrate, Monday, 8 February 2016, is the new lunar year.

Here are some things to mark on your calendar.  I hope to see you at these functions.

1. February lunch social in on 17 February 2016 at China Road starting at 1130.  It's a chance to get away from the office for a few moments to fellowship with each other.  Perhaps, in the future, we can have dinner socials, too.  Grads who live or work too far out will have a better chance to attend.

2. School awards at Papillion La Vista High School on 22 February 2016.  Time is TBD.  It's usually in the evening, but we sometimes get surprises with a day time awards.  School awards for Bellevue East High School and Bellevue West High School are TBD.  We may add Millard South High School next year as they start Air Force Junior ROTC.

3. Looking ahead a couple of months - Founders Day Dinner social: Thursday, 21 April 2016 at Lo Sol Mio.  Start time would be our usual 1830 meet and greet with dinner at 1900.  Speaker is TBD.  We'll let you know in future announcements on who is the speaker.

4. Roy Kessell will submit our chapter to the main AOG for a distinguished chapter award.  If you are involved with volunteering and other community services, let us know your contributions.  It is good to highlight to the main AOG what we do in our local community.

5. Long term planning:

a. Baseball socials: This is an activity our West Point Society sponsors.  We are invited to fellowship.  The West Point Society hosts the Eastern Nebraska Veterans’ Home to a Storm Chasers game.  Date and time are TBD.

b. Ops AF cadets: We expect three groups.  We will know more as we get closer in time.  The first group is usually here the first week of June.  Are there any volunteers to host a cadet social?  Dates are TBD.

c. Football socials: We usually have three: First Saturday in October for USAFA vs USNA, first Saturday in November for USAFA vs USMA, and the last regular game in December for USMA vs USNA.  Times are TBD.

d. Sports teams in the area.  We missed the USAFA men's gymnastics in Lincoln the weekend of 23 January.  We can check the sports site for published dates and times for the intercollegiate teams.  If you know of other teams not on any published schedules such as rugby or the volley club that we hosted, let us know when they are in town.

e. All Academies Ball.  Air Force parents host for 2016.  The usual date is in the last week of December but it can be anytime in the last two weeks.  Date, time, and location are TBD.  Since Air Force parents hosting, we should put it on our calendar to attend.  It would be excellent if we had a good representation.  Roy Kessell and Ed Yong went to the last one in December 2015.  There are pictures posted to our facebook page.  It was really fun.  Ed Bishop went to the DesMoines IA All Academies Ball since he is a liaison officer on the western area of Iowa.

6. Other planning activities:

a. Aircraft display at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans’ Home.  We need to have helping sponsors.  Perhaps, you know of organizations willing to help donate.

b. Volunteer at the Veterans' Cemetery.  14250 Schram Road, Omaha, NE 68138 (Just south of Hwy 370 and Hwy 50 (144th Street)).

c. Going to your reunion?  USAFA offers civilian graduate ID cards if you are not a retiree and separated from the Air Force.  You will have to be at USAFA physically to pick up your ID card if you apply for it.  No mailing.

d. Potential combined chapter activities with our counterparts in Kansas City

7. Potential job networking:

a. Roy Kessell is back in the work force.  He flies and his new job in the local area is flying commercial drones.  You need to have a pilot’s license and Roy is the perfect candidate.  Perhaps, there may be other opportunities for other pilots in the area.

b. Anybody good with DoD test policy and guidance?  There may be an opportunity for you in a few months.

c. Anybody good with software testing?  There may be an opportunity for you in a few months.

d. Anybody else with potential opportunities to share?

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Happy New Year.  I gained weight with all those good foods.  I’ll need to lose some before squeezing into that A-jacket and for my own personal health.  Thank you all for a great 2015 through your participation and generosity.  We finished off the year with the All Academies Ball.  Pictures posted to the facebook page.

I thought USAFA got robbed with that “targeting” call a couple of minutes into the game that ejected Steelhammer.  The replays did not show targeting.  Anyway, if Steelhammer remained in the game, the outcome might be different.

Did you receive the latest CheckPoints?  There is a USAFA connection to the latest Star Wars movie.  The company (Sphero) that makes the robot toy (BB8) featured in Star Wars run by a CEO who is a USAFA 89 graduate (Paul Berberian).

As we look forward into 2016, the school awards happen in the next few months.  We also have our Founders Day social.  Where does time go?  It didn’t seem that long ago that we handed out the school awards.  We will send out further information as we get dates from the schools.

Our Chapter President, Roy Kessell, has an idea to host a display in front of the Eastern Nebraska Veterans’ Home.  There is a tank display out there.  We could partner up with an organization like the SAC Museum to host an aircraft display.  If anyone has good ideas to raise funds or partners, please send us your thoughts.

Thanks for the dues and donations.  For $20 each, you help keep our chapter active with the community and visiting USAFA guests.

Please pass the message to any grads I may miss.  Have them send me a message on what email address they would like to get these announcements to stay in touch with the USAFA alumni body.  If you know of grads here on TDY or just visiting during one of our socials, feel free to invite them to join us.
