sports is coming to the local area is the men’s gymnastics
team in January 2012 where they come to Lincoln NE for a
quad meet. Ed coordinating with the parent’s club through
the Muellers if there is a group going. At this time, it is
up to the individual to go as there is no group of people
identified.
7. January 2012 begins the high school
TAD Draper Leader of Character Award notifications. We have
the form letters. Jacque to update and send out to the
schools.
a. This year we’ll include
a $100 scholarship. We would like for the winner to use
towards travel to visit USAFA. The award package includes:
name on the plaque for the school year, a book on
leadership, certificate, and now $100.
b. Papillion La Vista is
one high school that has the award.
c. Bellevue East is the
other high school that has the award. We missed last year
for whatever reason. Rhet made many attempts to get a name,
but the school did not respond. David Webster to talk with
Bill Steele who heads up the Jr. ROTC at Bellevue East to
help ensure that a name isn’t missed this year.
d. We have a blank plaque
read for a third school.
e. Liaison officers may be
interested in participating. Ed to check with Brian Mueller
on the interest.
8. Corporate sponsors to help with the
Chapter?
a. We have grads in the
local area in companies that have potential to become
corporate sponsors
b. David Webster to check
on Union Pacific
9. Job networking
a. We have a few items
listed on our site as additional information to one’s own
resources for job networking
b. Strategic Professional
Resources, Inc. is listed on the site with contact
information
c. David Webster heads up
the Union Pacific group that helps veterans locate jobs in
Union Pacific. David’s contact information is also listed
on the site.
10. Other ideas
a. Make use of PayPal for
dues so that it is easier to track than passing currency by
hand and an Excel spreadsheet
b. Tour of the Union
Pacific dispatch center (Harriman). David Webster to check
on the potential.
c. Tour of the RJ with the
55th. Jacque to check on the potential.
d. Maybe the Parents’ club
might want to add the URL for the Chapter site to their
webpage. Ed to ask the question to the Muellers.
e. Newsletter for the group? At this time, the group e-mail
seems to be OK. We’ll cross the bridge to hard copies as
needed.

Alvino's on Tuesday, 26 July 2011, beginning at 1130.
2. Future lunch socials with potential
speakers desired:

Desire to get Maj Gen Susan Desjardins. Jeff Blank to check

b. September 2011 time frame:
Desire to get Maj Gen Gregory Biscone. Jacque Torson to
check into this potential.
3. TAD Draper Leader of Character
Award
a. Plaque for Bellevue East HS is
at Ed Yong's desk
b. Blank plaque for a future
opportunity is also at Ed Yong's desk
c. Third plaque at Papillion La
Vista HS with this year's winner displayed
d. Potential to have $100
scholarship in conjunction with the award. For now, we
present a leadership book and a certificate to the winner.
Jeff Blank will check with the main AOG on what else we
could do with respect to the monetary award. Most likely it
will just be cut the winner a check.
e. We will need to notify schools
sooner to give them time to select the winner. We suspect
that Bellevue East HS did not have enough time to select a
winner for this year. This past year, the notification
letter went out in late January. We may need to send out in
the fall time frame to get the schools to think about their
upcoming winner.
4. All members social will be in the
late fall time frame in conjunction with the Navy or Army
game.
a. Elections for VP and Treasurer
b. Chapter dues
c. Recruiting of any volunteers for
VP and Treasurer
5. All academies ball - long range
planning. This is usually done on 26 Dec 11. We'll need to
be in contact with the Parents' Club to stay abreast of the
situation.
6. Potential to review the Chapter
goals and objectives.
a. Get a listing of grads in the
local area from the main AOG
b. Create a survey to get feedback
on the Chapter goals and objectives
c. Send a timeline of events to the
grads in the local area
7. Longer range social - Founders' Day
social on 1 April 2012 (or an alternate day since 1 April
2012 falls on a Sunday). Thoughts and ideas to plan it well
are welcome.
8. Job networking
a. DC area chapter has corporate
backing via high profile members. What can we do with our
group? It is small at the moment, but small improvements
over time eventually lead to big things.
b. We need to get our participation
level up especially with those grads in positions that can
help with jobs
c. We will continue to use our
e-mail notices to help. If anyone knows of a job, we'll
announce. If anyone is in need of a job, we'll announce.
LinkedIn and other social media are OK, but there isn't that
face to face personal contact that usually is the best for
securing jobs.
9.
Chapter polo shirts are still available to order for anyone
who wants one. They are good and attractive shirts.
Meeting adjourned:
1230
