					Basic Cadet Training

The philosophy of the Basic Cadet Training Program is to
lead by example; teach and not harass; emphasize the
learning process and resist the tendency to simply evaluate
and measure; provide continuous motivational and relevant
experiences; develop mutual respect , pride, and trust; and
most importantly, prepare the basic cadets for the
challenges and responsibilities that lie ahead.

The BCT program is a period of accelerated learning during
which fundamental military skills are acquired; physical
condition is improved; and, by example and instruction, the
basic cadets increase their confidence and motivation to
					serve in the Air Force.

The BCT program is also a learning
experience for the upper-class cadre in the techniques of
command, leadership, and followership.  It is important
that the cadet cadre's conduct be professional and above
					reproach at all times.

					WebGuy Note:
I was an Element Leader for 2nd BCT while as an
upperclassman in the 1980s.  That final paragraph from
the BCT philosophy is 100% correct.  I can trace much
of my grounding in how to lead people back to the experience
I had leading Basics out in Jacks Valley.  It can be a
critical "Leadership Laboratory" for an upperclass cadet.

Of course, the BCT experience also significantly changes the
Basic.  You have already likely heard comments from
upperclass parents about how "different" their cadets are
when they see them at Parents Weekend.  BCT is such a
short period of time, yet it is a life-changing experience.
The bonds, memories, and lessons built here are invaluable.
					Don't fear the change--embrace it.

					Web Guy Weather Note:
Welcome to sunny, hot, no humidity Colorado!

					Appointees
					Please continue your conditioning.  Please
continue building up your aerobic endurance.  I was a
High School Varsity Cross Country Runner in Wildwood, New
Jersey.  For those of you unfamiliar with New Jersey,
Wildwood is an island at sea level.  When I came up to
this altitude, it was definitely a difference.

					Parents
When you visit Colorado, please ensure you keep three things
					in mind:
water; suntan lotion; layered clothing.  If you
remember these, your visits should be fun.  If not, it
					will be --- interesting.
