Randy's History


Gone But Not Forgotten


ToffelSm.jpg Captain Randall K. Toffel, United States Air Force Academy Class of 1964, was killed on 21 March 1968 in an F-101 accident near Otis AFB, MA.

Randy reported to the Academy from Tuscaloosa, AL. While at the Academy, he was a member of the 23rd Cadet Squadron.

Upon graduation, Randy was assigned to Undergraduate Pilot Training at Craig AFB, AL. In 1966, he trained as an F-4 pilot with the 68th Tactical Fighter Squadron at George AFB, CA. His follow-on assignment was to the 480th Tactical Fighter Squadron, DaNang AB, South Vietnam. Upon his return from Southeast Asia, Randy checked out in the F-101 Voodoo. He was flying for the 60th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Otis AFB at the time of the accident.

Randy was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, 13 Air Medals and an Air Force Commendation Medal.
