Talking with Sansom & Richter in Saigon

While I was assigned to Tan Son Nhut, Bob Sansom came to Saigon twice while he was researching his Oxford dissertation on agricultural economics. On one occasion, Bob and I were having dinner in the Officers Club and Karl Richter came in. We ended up after the meal in Karl’s VOQ room, where we got the best and most vivid briefing ever on the operations and tactics of Wild Weasel aircraft with their Shrike missiles. From the standpoint of someone who had to narrate the results of missions to the command structure of 7th AF, hearing how it really happens was amazing. What a loss!
