Gone But Not Forgotten


SweetaySm.jpg Captain William P. Sweetay, United States Air Force Academy Class of 1964, died of cancer on 25 October 2010 in Travelers Rest, NC.

Bill reported to the Academy from Windsor, NY. While at the Academy, Bill was a member of the wrestling team. He was also a varsity cheer leader.

Following graduation from the Academy, Bill was assigned to Undergraduate Pilot Training at Reese AFB, TX. From 1966 to 1970, he was a B-52 pilot with the 348 Bomb Squadron at Westover AFB, MA, where he deployed to Andersen AFB, Guam. He separated from the Air Force on 28 February 1970.

From 1970 to 2007, Bill was a commercial pilot with Delta Airlines, flying out of New York.

Bill was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and 8 Air Medals.
