1963 Nebraska Football Program

by Joe Rodwell

Teammates:

I have a dear uncle who is cleaning out his house – he was the one who had sent me the 1962 program that I brought to the football luncheon on Friday during our recent reunion. He just sent me the ’63 Nebraska game program, as he attended that game. Here are a few interesting facts, most of which I never knew. Nebraska that year won the Orange Bowl and went 10-1 for the year, their 1 loss, of course, being to us – they ranked #5 in the country after the Orange Bowl, which most of us probably knew/remember. They had 9 seniors who later played in the NFL – Bobby Brown was the #2 overall pick and Lloyd Voss was the 13th pick in the draft – Lloyd was born in Adrian, MN, where my deceased brother-in-law was once Chief of Police. Monte Kiffin was on that team – now, of course, he’s coaching the defense at the U. of Southern California where his son (who graduated from H.S. here in MN during Monte’s 6 year stint with the Vikings) is the head coach. Also on that team was Frank Solich, former Nebraska head coach who now is head coach at Ohio U. Bob Devaney was the head coach and Tom Osborne was an assistant coach. You probably didn’t realize we were in such distinct company . . . .

I just thought you’d like to know.
