Gone But Not Forgotten


RickelSmall.jpg On 22 May 1979, Major David J. Rickel, Class of 1964, was declared Killed In Action after having been listed as Missing In Action since 16 May 1968. He was the pilot of an F-4D which was reported missing while on an armed reconnaissance mission in North Vietnam.

He was survived by his wife, Annabella, 432 North Post Oak Lane, Houston TX 77024; by his father, Mr. Albert F. Rickel, 1620 ½ NE 12th Terrace, Ft Lauderdale FL 33304; and by his mother, Mrs. Dorothy C. Lackner, 2435 Mary Street, Marinette WI 54143.

While at the Air Force Academy, Dave was a member of the 21st Cadet Squadron and was a member of the Ski Club and the Class Committee. He was on the Superintendent's List seven semesters and majored in Basic Science. Following graduation from pilot training, Dave was assigned to the 92nd Tactical Fighter Squadron at Bentwaters RAF Station, England. At the time he was reported missing, Dave was assigned to the 435th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Ubon AB, Thailand.
