Dick's History


Gone But Not Forgotten


MorrisRTSmall.jpg Captain Richard T. Morris, United States Air Force Academy Class of 1964, died on 30 April 1970 in a C-123 crash near Duranzno, Uruguay. He was buried at the Air Force Academy Cemetery on 7 May 1970.

Dick reported to the Academy from Duryea, PA. While at the Academy, he was a member of the 15th Cadet Squadron. He played guard for the varsity team for 2 years.

Upon graduation, Dick was assigned to Undergraduate Pilot Training at Reese AFB, TX. In 1966 and 1967, he was a B-52 pilot with the 340th Bomb Squadron, Blytheville AFB, AR. In 1968 he was a forward air controller flying O-2s for the 20th Tactical Air Support Squadron at DaNang AB, South Vietnam. He was assigned to the United States Military Group in Uruguay at the time of the accident.

Captain Morris was survived by his wife, Barbara, and by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard J. Morris.
