Gone But Not Forgotten


Mink.jpg Lawrence Joseph Mink, 68, of Alpena, MI passed away Friday, July 8, 2011 at Alpena Regional Medical Center.

Larry was born on August 5, 1942 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to the late Eldor and Claire (Lutz) Mink. He graduated from the Air Force Academy, before his time spent in Vietnam flying forward air control and B52 bombers. Larry married the former Barbara M. Driscoll on September 12, 1970. He was employed as a pilot for CSA/FedEx retiring in 2007.

He was a member of N.R.A., V.F.W. Alpena Post 2496, G.W.R.R.A., Alpena Life Long Learners, Alpena Sportsman's Club – Pistol League, Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary Boat Builders, P.K. and Fletcher Gun Club. Larry loved salmon fishing, riding his motorcycle, working his tractor, shooting, reloading, gunsmithing, teaching his family safe use of firearms and was a pyro technician for Zambelli Fireworks with his son Jon.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara; 4 children, Jon (Kelli) Mink of Fruitport, Lisa (Robert) Steketee of Colorado, Tiffany (Kevin) Lane of West Branch, L. Alexander (Karla) of South Carolina; 11 grandchildren, Hannah, Nathan, Trevor, Quade, Savanah, Devon, Aidan, Ashley, Cora, Claire, Derek; 2 brothers, James (Shirley) Mink of Pennsylvania, E. John (Katherine) Donahue-Mink of New Jersey; extended family, Carla Baragar, Tom & Janice Adams, Jan Mink, Breann Dolliver; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Mink was accorded full military honors by VFW Alpena Post 2496, and a parish prayer service will also take place on Wednesday July 13, 2011. Inurnment was at Holy Cross Cemetery
