Gone But Not Forgotten


MayoSm.jpg Captain Steven K. Mayo, United States Air Force Academy Class of 1964, died of a heart attack on 25 November 1999 in Newton, MA.

Steve reported to the Academy from the State of Massachusetts. While at the Academy, he was a member of the 8th Cadet Squadron. Equally adept on a pair of skis or behind the wheel of his Porsche, Steve was a true intellectual. He majored in the social sciences.

Upon graduation, Steve was assigned to Georgetown University, where he earned a Master's degree in Economics in 1966. From 1969 to 72 he was a research associate for the Rand Corporation in Santa Monica CA. He separated from the Air Force 7 July 1972. Later in 1972 he earned a PhD in Economics at Harvard University. In 1973, he was a senior economist for a firm in Cambridge, MA. From 1982 to 1999 he was an economist for the World Bank in Washington, DC.
