Gone But Not Forgotten


JohnsonHKSm.jpg On 15 June 1973 Captain Hugh K. Johnson, Class of 1964, died in an aircraft accident near Venado Beach, Republic of Panama. He was survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert K. Johnson, 104 E. 67th St., Kansas City, MO. 64113.

Captain Johnson attended undergraduate pilot training at Webb AFB, TX, with upgrading in the F-100 in 1966 at Cannon AFB, NM. In 1966 and 1967 he served in Southeast Asia at Bien Hoa and Tuy Hoa air bases flying the F-100. Later in 1967 he served as an 0-1 forward air controller. Follow on assignments included Squadron Officer's School, F-100 instructor pilot (IP) at Luke AFB, AZ and A-7D IP at Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ in 1971.

Captain Johnson was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 16 oak leaf clusters, and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with palm.
