Gone But Not Forgotten
Captain David I. Hickman, United States Air Force Academy Class of 1964, died in a CF-101 aircraft accident on 20 November 1970 near Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Bagotville, Canada.
Dave reported to the Academy from Arlington, VA. While at the Academy, he was a member of the 12th Cadet Squadron.
Upon graduation, Dave was assigned to Undergraduate Pilot Training at Vance AFB, OK where he trained in Class 66-B. From 1965 through 1966, he was an RF-4C pilot in the 22nd Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron at Toul-Rosieres AB, France. In 1967, he was a pilot/systems operator in the 11th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron at Udorn RTAFB, Thailand. Following his combat tour of duty, Dave returned to the states and checked out in the F-101 Voodoo. In 1968 and early 1969, he was assigned to the 75th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, Wurtsmith AFB, MI. Later in 1969, he took an exchange assignment to the 410 Operations Training Squadron at CFB Bagotville, where he was serving at the time of the accident.
Dave was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, 10 Air Medals and the Air Force Commendation Medal.
