Gone But Not Forgotten


ElderSm.jpg Captain Clarence “Rusty” Elder, Jr., United States Air Force Academy Class of 1964, died from injuries received in a vehicular accident on 14 May 1973. Funeral services were held at the USAF Academy on 18 May 1973. Rusty was survived by his wife, Mary Frances, and two sons, Roger and Tony, of 2907 New Germany—Trebein Rd, Fairborn, OH 45324; and by his parents, Colonel (Retired) and Mrs. Clarence L. Elder, of 19569 Arden Ct., Saratoga, CA 95070.

As a cadet Rusty was named to the Dean's List and participated on the Polaris staff, the Photo Club, and the Professional Studies Group. He flew the C-133A and EC-47A aircraft at Dover AFB, DE and Tan Son Nhut AB, SVN, respectively. He was an instructor pilot at Laredo AFB, TX from 1968 to 1971. Rusty was a graduate student in Systems Analysis, Air Force Institute of Technology, at the time of his death. He had been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with seven oak leaf clusters, and the Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster.
