Gone But Not Forgotten


AbbottSm.jpg Major Robert L. Abbott, Jr., Class of 1964, was killed in an RF-4C aircraft accident near Nellis AFB, NV on 10 May 1979. He was survived by his wife, Judith, and a son and daughter, of 2210 Comburg Castleway, Austin, TX 78745; and by his mother, Mrs. Jeannette M. Abbott, 5343 Livinston Avenue, Dallas TX 75209.

Bob served as the Flight Training Officer and Athletic Officer of the 7th Cadet Squadron. He was a member of the Water Polo Club and the Protestant Religious Council and lettered in swimming for two years.

Upon receiving his pilot wings at Laughlin AFB, Bob was assigned to the 357th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Takhli AB, Thailand. He later served as an instructor pilot with the 3641st Pilot Training Squadron at Laredo AFB, TX; a FAC with the 20th Tactical Air Support Squadron, Pleiku AB, South Vietnam; and an Air Liaison Officer, 3d Brigade, Fort Hood, TX. He was assigned to the 91st Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron at Bergstrom AFB,TX, with TDY to the 65th Fighter Weapons Squadron at Nellis AFB at the time of the crash.
