Remembering Don Paye

I first met Don before entering the Academy when we were at Bolling AFB for our pre-Academy testing and soon afterwards at his home in Cumberland, MD. We also saw each other frequently during Doolie year.

In our second year at the Academy, Don and I were roommates briefly, before we both got into trouble academically. Don got turned-back while I got off my lazy butt and quickly dug out of an academic hole. While we were roommates at the Academy, quite coincidentally, our future wives actually lived across the hall from each other at a college in Maryland.

 One of Don's favorite treats when he and his future wife, Pat , would visit us in Denver in 1960 while still a cadet, were my homemade Pennsylvania Hoagies.

I later saw Don and his family several times over the years, either at their home near McGuire or at our place in Maryland, before they headed out to Washington State. I last saw Don and Pat in 2000 when they were visiting "back East."  Of course, I had to make hoagies, and here we are toasting:
