John E. Gutzweiler, Jr., 78, of Palmer Township, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2016 in St. Luke's Hospice House.

Born May 1, 1937, in Easton, PA, he was a son of the late John E. "Ink" Sr. and Grace Murray Gutzweiler.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna Boyd Gutzweiler, who died in 1984 and his second wife, Sharon M. McAllister Gutzweiler, who died in 2010.

John was retired from GPU Services Corp. Previously he worked for Metropolitan Edison on power plant construction.

He graduated from Easton High School Class of 1955, attended Lafayette College on a full scholarship for a year and was then commissioned to the Air Force Academy where he received a B.S. in aerospace engineering. John received a M.S. in aerospace engineering from the University of Colorado. He served with the Air Force during the Vietnam War.

John was an avid golfer, [and he] enjoyed dining out and traveling with family.

He was a member of Wedgewood Golf Club and a former member of Northampton Country Club and the Pomfret Club.

Surviving is a son, John E. Gutzweiler III, of Redlands, CA; a daughter, Julie Gutzweiler, of Easton; a step-daughter, Cathy Capone, of Delaware; a sister, Joy Sales and her husband Edgar "Ted", of Palmer Township; a granddaughter, Alexa Gutzweiler and two step-granddaughters, Georgia and Charlie. He was predeceased by a daughter, Tracy Gutzweiler.

Services [were] held at 6pm Tuesday in the Strunk Funeral Home, Inc., 2101 Northampton Street, Wilson Borough. [Visitation was] Tuesday 4-6pm in the funeral home. Burial [was] at the convenience of the family in Northampton Memorial Shrine. Offer online condolences at www.strunkfh.com.
