Air Force Capt. Grant Reed Waugh, 32, a former Washington-area resident and a graduate of the Air Force Academy, was killed Aug.10 when the C-123 plane he was piloting crashed while landing at Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam.

Capt. Waugh attended Washington-Lee High School in Arlington and the Sewanee Military Academy, Sewanee, Tenn.

He graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1960 and held a master's degree in astro-aeronautical engineering from the University of Illinois.

In September, 1969, Capt. Waugh went to Vietnam, where he served with the 310th Tactical Airlift Squadron, based at Phan Rang. Among the citations he received were the Air Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and two children: Allison Marie, 8, and Grant Reed Jr., 6, at the home of his mother, Mrs. Elena A. Jensen, Raleigh, N.C.; a sister, Mrs. Edward Cochrane, Ore.; three half-sisters: Karen II. Jensen of Bellingham, Wash.; and Josephine and Kirsten H. Jensen, at the home; and his grandmothers: Mrs. Belle Waugh of Gainesville, Ga., and Mrs. Frederick H. Hall, of the home.
