Chapel and interment services were held Sept. 23, 1966 at the Air Force Academy for Capt. John R. Jansen, a 1960 graduate of this service academy.

Captain Jansen, assigned to the 57^th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Keflavik, Iceland, was killed on Sept. 15, 1966 in an F-102 aircraft crash at Keflavik. He was killed instantaneously, with the exact cause of the accident as yet unknown.

Prior to his commissioning here, Jansen held the position of Cadet Squadron Operations Officer. During his school days, he was on the Superintendent's merit list during the first semester of his senior year. He was a member of the Cadet Honor Board, the fishing, hunting, skeet and ski clubs.
