An England Air Force Base pilot, Capt James C. Fey, 27, died Tuesday night when his F-100 Super Sabre crashed in the Kisatchie National Forest near Coburn while on a training mission. Fey's jet fighter reportedly crashed at 7:30 pm, and the wreckage was not found until 3 am. No details on the crash were available. A base spokesman said the accident will be investigated by a special board. Fey's Super Sabre was on a 'Night Owl' night training mission when it went down in the heavily wooded western part of the forest on the Peason Ridge Bombing Range. Night bombing training at the range was initiated Monday night and is expected to continue for two weeks.

Fey, a member of the 510th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 3rd Tactical Fighter Wing, was the father of two children: two-year-old Laura Lynn and four-year-old Mark Richard.  His widow is Elaine Estes Fey. He was reared in St. Louis, MO, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley E. Fey who now live in Willow Grove, PA. Fey entered the service in 1960 and was an Air Force Academy graduate. He was assigned to the 510th in 1962 and arrived at England in March 1964. Other survivors include a brother and two sisters.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. James Episcopal Church in Alexandria. Pallbearers were officers of the 510th. John Kramer & Son Funeral Home were in charge of arrangements.

Burial services for Capt. James C. Fey of England Air Force Base [were] scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Air Force Academy cemetery in Colorado Springs. Pallbearers [were] six alumni of the Air Force Academy and an escort [was] composed of 24 cadets of the 13th [Cadet] Squadron of the Academy. The cadet squadron is sponsored by the 510th Tactical Fighter Squadron--Capt Fey's squadron.

An England AFB spokesman said that the family has requested that memorials be made through England AFB Chaplain Earl C. Parker for the Capt. James C. Fey Memorial Award. The award will be given annually to the chairman of the Protestant Religious Council of the Air Force Academy.
